Quad Series call-ups for Wasps Netball stars

Three Wasps Netball stars have been selected to play for England in the upcoming Vitality Netball International Series, as part of the Netball Quad Series.

Vitality Roses Head Coach Tracey Neville has picked Jade Clarke, Rachel Dunn and Fran Williams as part of her 12-player squad.

Mid-court dynamo Bongi Msomi has also been selected for South Africa and will captain the SPAR Proteas at the tournament.

Fran Williams is tipped as a future star of the England side and was given her senior international debut in the test series against Uganda in October.

The 21-year-old, who can play at goal defence or wing defence, impressed and was given her first starting berth in the same series.

Rachel Dunn has also earned a call-up to the England squad following a string of stand-out performances for Wasps Netball.

The goal shooter was named Sky Sports Player of the Match in the season opener against Loughborough Lightning, following up her Golden Ball performance in the Fast5 Netball All-Stars tournament.

Dunn was recalled to the England squad for the Uganda Series and has twice won bronze with the Roses at the Commonwealth Games.

Jade Clarke, another Commonwealth Games gold medallist, is set to make her 160th international appearance in the Quad Series.

The mid-court star is the Roses’ most-capped player of all time and captained the side in 2014.

The trio will represent their country against New Zealand on Sunday 13 January at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, before taking on South Africa on Saturday 19 January at the Copper Box Arena in London.

The Quad Series will conclude on Sunday 20 January at the Copper Box Arena with England facing Australia in a rematch of the Commonwealth Games Final.

Mel Mansfield, Head Coach of Wasps Netball, said: “We’re delighted that the fantastic performances of Rachel, Jade, Fran and Bongi have been recognised on the international stage – and deservedly so.

“Bongi will be joining back up with the squad following the Quad Series and I am sure she will lead South Africa brilliantly in this tournament.

“We have a talented squad here at Wasps Netball, full of top quality players, and to have four of our stars performing on a stage such as the Quad Series is testament to that.”

Wasps Netball’s international stars will be in action at Ricoh Arena when they face Saracens Mavericks on Monday 11 February (7pm centre-pass).
