New stars will join title winners as Wasps Netball compete at the British Fast5 All-Stars tournament in October.
Head Coach Mel Mansfield has assembled her 10 player squad to challenge their Superleague rivals at the Copper Box Arena at London’s Olympic Park on Saturday, October 13.
Three of Wasps’ latest additions will link up with seven of last year’s Superleague winning squad - giving fans their first opportunity to see Tamsin Moala, Chloe Essam and Katie Harris in black-and-gold.
Defenders Sam May, Fran Williams, Josie Huckle, and Captain Hannah Knights are all selected, alongside mid-courter Amy Flanagan, and Vice-Captain Sophia Candappa.
Superstar shooter Rachel Dunn completes the shooting trio and will link up Moala and Harris for the first time at the tournament.
Despite having the option to select two all-star players, Mansfield has shown faith in her current crop and believes that they can come away as winners in this year’s tournament.
Mel Mansfield said: “I’ve been very impressed with our new additions in training since they joined us and it will good to see them tested in the Fast5 tournament.
“We won’t have Bongi Msomi or Jade Clarke available for the tournament, but all 10 of our other squad will be ready, so this works perfectly.
“We have some of the best players around, and I have no doubt that we have enough firepower in this group to challenge and go all the way.
“It’s always a fantastic event at the Copper Box and we’re hoping to see plenty of Wasps fans waving their flags in the stand on the day.
“Fast5 is an exciting format and last year we played well, but we want to get even better this time around and I believe with this group we have a real chance of coming away with the title.”
Standing between Wasps and the £25,000 prize will be Loughborough Lightning, Manchester Thunder, Team Bath, benecosMavericks, Severn Stars, Surrey Storm, and UWS Sirens.
Loughborough Lightning took the 2017 crown with a last-gasp 35-33 victory over Team Bath at the O2 Arena.
The fast-paced format is comprised of a double elimination group-stage, with four of the eight teams advancing to the semi-finals. Each match lasts around 12 minutes, featuring an all-star 5-point line and a Golden Buzzer Power Play, giving teams the chance to score multiple point shots.
Tickets to see Wasps Netball take on their Superleague rivals in the British Fast5 All-Stars tournament are available from www.fast5allstars.com. It will also be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
