Wasps Netball Announce Training Partners for coming season

Hannah Leighton

Hannah is a local athlete who has played her formative netball in the West Midlands and progressed from our Pathway into a Training Partner position with the senior squad.

"I’m really excited to return to Wasps for another season. I’m looking forward to building on what I learnt last year and developing my game. I can’t wait to get back and see what we can achieve together as a team."

- Hannah Leighton

"Hannah returns as a training partner but is determined to make an impact on court this season and will be competing hard in training for a place in the matchday squad. A local player, who has come through the Wasps pathway and Birmingham Uni, Hannah has unreal athletic ability and the focus this season is for Hannah to work hard on position-specific strengths. She is so versatile, and we look forward to developing her strengths further in order for her to have a real impact on the court."

Ally Housley

Ally got her first senior Roses cap at the Netball Europe Open 2019 where the team won Gold; she was also been picked for the U19 Roses tour to Australia and New Zealand 2019.

“Everyone can empathise with how eager we all are to get going with netball again, so I could not be more excited to be back with Wasps to do exactly that - let’s make up for lost time!”

- Ally Housley

"Ally returns to Wasps as a training partner with eyes firmly on a WYC place. Ally is another England U21 player who has so much to offer and we look forward to continuing to work with Ally to support her development this season."

Leah Goss

English Universities 2019; BUCS Champions 2018 & 2019

"I am super excited to be a part of Wasps this season. I look forward to a new challenge at a new franchise and learning from some of the best players in the league. I can’t wait to get started and to be back on court."

- Leah Goss

"Leah joins us from Surrey Storm and it will be no surprise to many that I asked my previous university captain to come and join me in the Wasps environment. Now studying for a PGCE, student PE teacher Leah is ready for a new challenge, and opportunities await at Wasps. Leah adds quality to our young training partner group and she will be pushing hard for a place in the matchday 10 each week. I am so happy that she has come to Wasps so that we continue to work together outside of university netball."

Megan Thorne

2 x U21 England Caps and Gold medal at Netball Europe 2019

"I first trialled for Wasps at age 14 and have been in the pathway ever since. I have a couple of Wasps hub titles under my belt and I have played for all of the age group teams. It felt amazing when Mel asked me to take the next step, and I am excited for the challenge ahead."

- Megan Thorne

"We’re really pleased to have secured Megan as a training partner. Megan is a Wasp through and through, and has been with the Club since the age of 14! She is already pretty experienced having been in the England Academy programme representing England U19 on the international stage. She is another example of the development of players through our Academy, and this was one of the most enjoyable video calls I made during the contracting window. Still studying for A levels, our baby Wasp is going to be really nurtured in our environment. She is an accurate shooter with a huge amount of confidence and potential, and we look forward to working with her as she develops in both the GS and GA bib."

- Mel Mansfield, Wasps Netball Head Coach

Ruth Hughes

"We are very pleased to offer Ruth a training partner agreement this season. Another England U21 player who has ambition for the WYC squad, Ruth was involved in many of our training sessions last season and demonstrated that she has what it takes to develop at the senior level. Ruth has been part of our pathway for many years, and is another Birmingham University talent that is firmly committed to Wasps. We are thrilled to give Ruth this opportunity."
